Job Summary:

The VDOT Project Manager PMP role is a senior-level position responsible for supporting and enhancing project governance within the Virginia Department of Transportation's IT Division. The role focuses on providing comprehensive PMO support including documentation management, training coordination, risk oversight, and reporting to ensure effective project delivery across Commonwealth-level IT projects. This position requires strong project management expertise, PMP or ACP certification, and the ability to work onsite part-time.

Responsibilities:

• Update, maintain, and publish PMO documentation supporting IT project managers and staff.
• Manage SharePoint Online document libraries ensuring accuracy and governance compliance.
• Develop, coordinate, and deliver in-person and virtual training for IT project managers and staff.
• Serve as risk manager by guiding risk identification, mitigation, and escalation for IT projects.
• Support recurring reporting using Excel and Power BI to provide accurate, insightful data.
• Oversee project readiness during Planning phase and ensure governance during execution.
• Review project plans for completeness, including tasks, schedules, risks, resources, and reporting.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active PMP or ACP certification through PMI or VITA's PM certification (no other certifications accepted).
• Minimum 10 years of project management experience with at least 15 years in IT.
• Proficiency in MS Office tools including Microsoft Project, Visio, and Excel.
• Experience in training development and professional documentation creation.
• Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, PMO standards, and governance frameworks.
• Experience managing SharePoint Online document libraries and permissions.
• Expertise in IT risk management and performing risk assessments.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with VITA's Commonwealth Technology Portfolio (CTP) system and ECOS process.
• Familiarity with Commonwealth IT procurement processes including RFPs and statewide contracts.
• Application development and technology infrastructure experience.
• Experience with proposal development and business writing.
• Prior VDOT project management experience.

Special Considerations:

• Candidate must physically reside within the United States for the duration of the assignment.
• Candidate must be willing to attend onsite interviews if requested.
• Candidate must agree to work onsite 2-3 days per week.

Scheduling:

• Part-time onsite presence required, 2-3 days per week.
• Work schedule may include both virtual and in-person activities.
